Serious fire and thick smoke blowing has caused New Town Row at A34 West Midlands to close both ways between A4540 New John Street West and Lancaster Circus, in Birmingham. Congestion is expected here. A4540 New John Street West is also affected, between B4498 Summer Lane and A34 New Town Row, and B4498 Summer Lane between Lower Loveday Street and A4540 New John Street West.
Due to ongoing roadworks, two northbound lanes are closed at M42 West Midlands during the evening between Shirley, J4 and J5, Solihull.
At M40 Warwickshire, the southbound lane of the exit slip road is closed because of evening roadworks at J15, in Longbridge Island.
