A1 – Stretches north from Newcastle to Edinburgh, and south to London
A19 – Heads south From Newcastle past Sunderland and Middlesbrough to York and Doncaster
A69 – Heads west from Newcastle to Carlisle
A167 – Heads south from Newcastle to Gateshead, Chester, Durham and Darlington

Roads to Avoid in Tyne & Wear |

At A19 Tyne and Wear, due to bridge maintenance and some resurfacing work, Hylton Bridge is blocked both ways between A1231 Wessington Way and A183. There are diversion routes in operation at A183 to Shiney Row, to the A182, then to the A1231, and to the Hylton Grange Interchange.
Expect congestion due to temporary traffic light installations and ongoing gas pipe work at A185 Tyne and Wear on B1516 Park Road and Albert Road, in Jarrow.
There are ongoing evening roadworks at A1 Tyne and Wear, so one northbound lane is closed at A167 Stamfordham Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne
One eastbound lane is also closed at A696 Tyne and Wear due to roadworks ongoing at Newbiggin Lane, Newcastle.
Another southbound lane is closed at A1 Tyne and Wear during the evening due to ongoing roadworks at Kingston Park Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
