There are two recycling and household waste sites within Leicester city proper. These are suitable for the disposal and recycling of everyday wastes, but they may not be outfitted for disposal of toxic chemicals, used batteries or asbestos. This is one of two Community Recycling Centres (CRC) in the Leicester area. It is intended for use by local households, and its services are offered free of charge. Items allowed include books, paper, cardboard, metals (including drink cans and food tins), clothing, shoes, fabric, mixed glass containers and aluminium foil. Cooking oil was recently added to the list of allowable materials, but few other potentially hazardous chemicals are permitted.
